About Us
The James Parkinson Centre Cornwall is a Cornish based Charity which aims to improve service provision for People with Parkinson's. It does this through mutually beneficial partnerships to ensure People with Parkinson's, and their Carers, have information and access to health and social care service provision to enable their independence.
The Charity was an initiative of people living with Parkinson's disease in Cornwall who requested the development of an organisation that could help influence health and social care service delivery across the County.
It was launched in 1998 and led by:
Dr Doug MacMahon (Consultant Physician at Camborne Redruth Hospital)
Rosemary Maguire (the first Parkinson's disease nurse specialist in the UK)
Sue Thomas (The Royal College of Nursing)
Regular evaluation of local people's needs by the Charity Trustees has ensured that the aims and objectives of the Charity remain relevant for people living with Parkinson's
